A common misconception is the natural stones used in your home are a maintenance free surface. These surfaces are extremely durable, but even they can be compromised in the course of normal daily living. Dropping a heavy object can result in broken stone. It is possible to leave a scratch simply from sliding a piece of furniture across the floor. The bar stools at your kitchen island can dull the stone flooring underneath them. The blowing sands of Southern Utah can scratch your floor. Acid sensitive stones can be damaged by food, drinks, beauty products and even your pets if you aren’t careful. We have to clean up after contractors all the time that inadvertently damage our clients floors. Even a well meaning cleaning company can cause damage to your floors simply by using the wrong product. Fortunately for you Suva Tile are restoration pros and can resolve all of these problems.

All floors get dirty with normal usage.
If you have natural stone flooring such as Travertine, Marble, or Limestone, those floors can get dirty. Unlike porcelain or ceramic tiles, natural stone flooring requires different cleaning methods. Most stone flooring is easily damaged by using the wrong chemical cleaner. We have the experience to understand the difference, leaving you with a clean floor you can be happy with once again.
Bathroom and kitchen countertops get dirty as well.
We utilize high temperature steam to sanitize each countertop as well as removing all hard water and mineral deposits. This makes sure the surface not only looks beautiful but is germ free as well!
The grout lines of porcelain or ceramic tend to get dirty way before the tile surface does. We use a unique cleaning process that effectively eliminates the dirt from from both surfaces. We always return your furniture to its original location when the cleaning process is complete. Once the floor is clean, we suggest the application of a sealer to keep your floor looking good and make your routine cleanings much easier.
Most of the grout used these days is porous as is virtually all natural stones. This means that those surfaces will easily soak up any liquid when they get wet. Water spills are no problem, but how about drink, food, children or pet accidents? All of those fluids can easily cause serious harm. You can’t stop the joys of life from happening so the next best thing is to protect these porous surfaces with the application of a sealer. There are many types of sealers. Generally speaking they belong to one of multiple basic categories: water based or solvent based, topical or penetrating, clear or color enhancing or color changing. There isn’t a single “best sealer” to use, it all is based on your particular preferences and circumstances. We all advise you of all the different options and help you make the very best choice for your home.
- Remove a sealer or coating you do not like (stripping)
- Seal the surface of your stone and maintain the natural look (clear penetrating sealer)
- Seal without changing the grout color (clear penetrating sealer)
- Seal and change the color of your grout (color seal)
- Seal the surface of your stone and bring out more of the natural colors (enhancing penetrating or topical sealer)
- Seal the surface of your stone and make it shine (topical sealer)

Natural stones contain various distinctive qualities. Odds are the stones in your house are 20 million years old or more. They can be dull without any shine or reflectivity or highly polished to a mirror like finish. The benefit is most of the times these stones can altered to fit your own personal preference and style. There are a number of ways to put a shine on stone. Here at Suva Tile we favor the “old school” method of polishing which leaves the longest lasting and most beautiful finish. This strategy does not use any chemicals to alter the stone, but instead a series of diamonds is used to polish the surface to your preferred result. We only use water and diamonds to assure that no dust is produced.
What can we polish:
- Tub Surrounds
- Bathroom Vanities
- Counter Tops
Suva Tile was launched in 1987 and for the last twenty years David Bonasera has been involved with consulting and expert witness. When a contractor improperly installs tile or stone a client may need an assessment or expert witness testimony when taking the contractor to court. I use tile and stone Forensics to check moisture, looking to walls, infrared technology, sound testing, deflection, and proper installation of tile and stone according to ANSI, TCNA, and NSI standards. Dave currently sits on the technical committee for the NSI, (National Stone Institute) and help write practices for the natural stone sector.
We have restored everything from polished marble bird feeders to the restoration of the 15 foot x 127 foot glass mosaic mural located at Dixie State University here in St. George, Utah. If you have a concept lets talk and see if we can make it happen.
